The Botanical Orchid Garden
The Botanical Orchid Garden
The Botanical Orchid Garden was established 30 years ago on a unique property located in La Garita,
Alajuela. It was developed on a former coffee plantation that contained beautiful native
trees which, fortunately, survived the land development. Claudio Salas, a botany enthusiast,
orchid expert, and the owner of the property, felt an urgent need to preserve these
valuable trees. His vision was to create an ecosystem for orchids within these trees,
providing the perfect habitat for their natural development, which eventually filled
the area with color and freshness.
Various types of tropical and ornamental plants, including heliconias, gingers, and
palms, were also added to the property, enriching its diversity. Subsequently,
greenhouses, nurseries, and a laboratory were built. From that point on, Claudio
Salas initiated the process of orchid production. One of the most significant
achievements is that nearly 100% of the orchid plants in the garden are
aboratory-produced and then integrated into the garden. As the orchids find their
ideal natural habitat, they begin to settle on the trees and propagate rapidly.
This process, coupled with Claudio Salas's deep love and dedication to orchid plants,
gave life to what is now known as the Botanical Orchid Garden of Costa Rica.
